In 2007, my newspaper (The Dispatch) decided to adopt a ‘web-first’ philosophy, emphasizing continuous online updates throughout the day. As part of this initiative, we wanted to introduce multimedia elements — video, audio, and slideshows — into news stories.
I was named The Dispatch’s first Online Content Producer and tasked with setting up our multimedia production workflow. This included editing, and helping train the newsroom staff in video capture best practices.
More recently, I produced seminar videos for the Education Writers Association, which hosts 4-5 regional conferences and one major conference per year. This requires a different editing approach than raw news video, but can make for interesting clips regardless.
