Here are a few clips from my years as a reporter. I spent most of my time on the government beat, but since I worked in small newsrooms, I found myself covering anything from charity events to drug busts to capital murder cases. All of these stories appeared in print and online, but they’re reprinted here, with permission, as .PDF files to prevent outdated links.

This is the last in a series of stories I did chronicling a Reidsville, NC man’s execution for a murder he committed in 1984. Perrie Dyon Simpson had been on death row for more than 20 years when I started covering his final round of appeals in late 2005 and early 2006.
Lunsford family, split long ago, reunites
This is one of the last stories I wrote for The Dispatch, in which a family torn apart by alcoholism and mental illness reunites after nearly 40 years. I also shot and edited a video for this piece, which was sadly removed after the paper’s ownership changed.
